Abigail Cortez, FNP-C

Nurse Practitioner

Abigail is a dedicated healthcare provider with a strong foundation in critical care and a growing passion for functional medicine. She earned her nursing degree from Brenau University in 2014 and began her career as a nurse in the ICU, caring for both pediatric and adult patients in high-acuity settings. Driven by a desire to build deeper relationships with patients and address the root causes of preventable, life-altering conditions, Abigail returned to school, earning a master’s degree in nursing from Georgia State University in 2022 and has spent the past 3.5 years practicing in outpatient internal medicine.

Throughout her time in internal medicine, Abigail encountered many patients whose lab results appeared normal, yet they continued to experience persistent symptoms. This sparked her interest in exploring beyond conventional diagnostics and led her to functional medicine—a field she personally values in her own health journey. Now transitioning into functional medicine professionally, Abigail is excited to partner with patients who are eager to take a proactive, personalized approach to their wellness.

Outside of work, Abigail cherishes time spent with her husband and family. She loves a local coffee shop, is an avid reader, enjoys traveling—whether near or far—and proudly admits that reality TV is her guilty pleasure.

Tell us how you first go interested in health and wellness.

I have always had a passion for helping others. My interest in healthcare was inspired by a high school teacher who was a nurse practitioner. The principles of nursing—compassion, respect, advocacy, and holistic care—deeply resonate with me. They reflect my belief in meeting people where they are and supporting them in becoming the best version of themselves. I’m passionate about being a partner in health, walking alongside others as they navigate their wellness journey with confidence and care.

What is your spirit animal and why?

Horse—represents strength, freedom, and steady support—qualities that guide not just my work, but my way of life. I believe in moving through the world with purpose, staying grounded in my values, and walking alongside others as they grow, heal, and discover their own strength. Like the horse, I strive to live with integrity, compassion, and a quiet resilience that helps others thrive.
