Fallon Messer, PT, DPT, OCS

Physical Therapist

Fallon is originally from Virginia where she received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Virginia in 2014 where she pursued a Distinguished Major’s tract which culminated in a formal written thesis and independent research project in the field of epigenetics. Fallon originally wanted to pursue a MD/PhD however was drawn to physical therapy after training for her first half marathon. She went on to receive her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018.

Fallon’s clinical experience and education is primarily in outpatient orthopedics and pelvic health. Being an avid runner and mom herself, Fallon particularly enjoys working with pregnant and postpartum runners. While she was originally drawn to physical therapy through running, one of her joys is helping people get back to whatever it is they are passionate about.

Outside of STAT, Fallon loves going on long walks with her husband, young son, and doggie, Obi. She also enjoys staying active through running and strength training but does indulge in reading new books in her down time.

INTERVIEW WITH FALLON

How do you stay healthy with a busy schedule?

Meal prep is absolutely essential on the weekends in order for my family and I to eat healthy and wholesome foods throughout the week. I also prioritize movement and exercise first thing in the morning before the day gets busy. Lastly when short on time, I try to incorporate my family into my movement or exercise goals.  That may look like jogging with the stroller and my dog or taking a family walk/hike! It’s usually a win-win when everyone gets in some movement and outside time!

If you could eat one cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

I love mediterranean food! It’s a wonderful combination of healthy and satisfying!

What’s your favorite healthy snack?

Probably anything with peanut butter or almond butter on it!

Can you share something about yourself with us we may not know?

When I was younger, I used to go around telling people that I wanted to marry Jimmy Fallon so I could be Fallon Fallon haha.

Do you have a favorite inspirational podcast or book?

I have some favorite PT podcasts! They would be Physio Network, The Pelvic PT Rising podcast, The Runners Zone podcast.

What’s your all time favorite song to work out to?

I truthfully don’t have a favorite song to work out to! At least once a year my husband makes me a playlist, and I like to listen to that or whatever pop rising has on spotify.

Tell us how you first go interested in health and wellness.

I have always had an interest in medicine in general but when I started undergraduate school, I didn’t take care of myself which led to not feeling my best. That’s when I discovered healthy eating and running, which led to better energy levels!

What is your spirit animal and why?

I would like to think my spirit animal would be something small and fast like a hare, which can reach top speeds of 35-50 mph in short distances.
