Kristen Lloyd, RN, BSN

Nurse

Atlanta & Roswell

Kristen graduated from the University of Georgia in 2012 with a Bachelors of Science in Education. She taught high school math for a year out of school and decided it was not for her. Through some exploration and advice, Kristen decided to pursue a career in nursing. She graduated from the University of North Georgia in May of 2020 with her Nursing degree and began working in Labor and Delivery at a local hospital. She will forever be grateful for the experience gained as it has shaped her into the nurse she is today. Kristen was looking to expand her nursing knowledge and sees Functional Medicine as a natural next step in supporting all patients in their journey to health and wellness.

Outside of work, Kristen loves working out, being outside, and spending time with her family and friends. She is a wife to Tyler and mom to two young boys, Ben and Wade. They also have a lab mix, Knox, who is obsessed with playing fetch in their yard.

INTERVIEW WITH KRISTEN

What are 3 ways you stay healthy with a busy schedule?

  • I make time to work out, usually 4-5 times a week. I love HIIT workouts and have recently started focusing on more consistent strength training. Working out is time for me to clear my head and relieve stress.
  • I give myself at least 10-15 minutes in the morning for silence and solitude. Sometimes that means reading a book, doing a meditation, or journaling. Having that time helps center me for the day ahead, especially when I am at home wrangling our two young boys.
  • I meal plan for the week. Meal prepping isn’t my jam, finding that chunk of time in one day just hasn’t panned out. But I have found that planning all our meals for the week ahead and doing our grocery shopping at once helps ensure we have healthy options. I also will double recipes a lot of the time so we have left overs for lunches/dinners.

If you could only eat one cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Hm that is hard to choose! But I think I would say Mexican food. You can wrap a tortilla around just about anything and its delicious!

What’s your favorite healthy snack?

I love cottage cheese with peanut butter, berries, and some granola on top!

Can you share something about yourself with us we may not know?

I am super competitive! I think most people would describe me as quiet or calm but when it comes to competition, I am in it to win it!

Do you have a favorite inspirational podcast or book?

I used to listen to a lot of podcasts! But I don’t have as much alone time in the car (hi Ben and Wade!) as I used to. And honestly, I’m not a big non-fiction reader. If I had to choose one book that has really had an impact on me, I would say Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer.

What’s your all-time favorite song to work out to?

I actually really love pop punk haha! Give me all the Blink-182, Sum 41, My Chemical Romance. I definitely get pumped up!

Tell us how you first got interested in health and wellness.

My husband and I joined a Crossfit gym in Jasper, GA when we were living there, and the Crossfit methodology really opened my eyes to the world of health and wellness. I started listening to the podcasts Dishing Up Nutrition by Nutritional Weight and Wellness and Pursuing Health by Julie Foucher. My focused really shifted to healthy eating and consistent movement as the primary ways to maintain wellness.

What is your spirit animal and why?

That’s a hard question! I feel like this is a funny answer but maybe a horse? Horses are quiet but strong, they don’t trust everyone but they are loyal to the people they let close to them. I’d like to think that is how I am!
