Monica’s journey with STAT Wellness began as a patient, frustrated and struggling with chronic pain and years of being dismissed by her doctors. STAT took the time to listen, validate, and reassure. When she heard STAT was hiring, she jumped at the chance to work in a space that values both physical and mental health. When she’s not at work, she’s at the dog park or hiking with her dog Buckles, or co-running a non-profit, Atlanta Service Collective, that helps bring awareness and education to food inequality and aims to transform Atlanta’s landscape into an abundant food forest.

INTERVIEW WITH MONICA
What are 3 ways you stay healthy with a busy schedule?
Prioritizing sleep (especially during the week), drinking lots of water, and making sure I move everyday- even if it’s just walking my dog!
If you could only eat one cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Japanese. I spent time there growing up and have family there, so it’s my ultimate comfort food.
What’s your favorite healthy snack?
I’m a big fan of fruit and cheese for a quick snack on the go!
Can you share something about yourself with us we may not know?
In college I impulse booked my flights, left a week later, and spent three weeks in Italy and Greece by myself with nothing but a carry on backpack.
Do you have a favorite inspirational podcast or book?
“You Are a Badass: How to Start Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life” by Jen Sincero
What’s your all-time favorite song to work out to?
This really changes based on my mood: it can range from 80s hits, pop punk, rap, or metal
Tell us how you first got interested in health and wellness.
STAT Wellness! I have arthritis and I’ve spent my life being afraid to move and being afraid of my body, starting here as a patient and then as an employee has really changed my mindset and given me a lot more confidence.
What is your spirit animal and why?
Owl. I feel like owl’s are all about wisdom and trusting your intuition.
